Things to do in Tenerife
There are two main Tenerife camel park attractions; one is in the north of the island and the other in the south. They are both run and maintained by the same Canarian family, both offer exactly the same facilities, and either is frequently on the list of things to do for those on holiday in Tenerife. The first camel park is in the northern town of El Tanque, roughly situated at the midway point between Santiago del Teide and Icod de Los Vinos on The TF- 82. The attraction is easily spotted from the main road and has ample parking should you arrive by hire car.
The southern camel park is situated near the town of Adeje just outside of Playa de las Americas. Heading out of Las Americas take the TF-1 (main motorway) and head towards Adeje. At the end of the motorway you will come to a roundabout. Take the third exit onto the TF-47 in the direction of Armenime. Take the second turning on the left which is sign posted El Puertito. You will find the camel park 100 meters up the road on the left hand side.
Facilities in the camel parks include some children’s activities, with a play area including swings, slides and a bouncy castle. Refreshments can be found at the café bar or the separate restaurant, which serves typical Canarian food. A souvenir shop is on-site and here you can purchase your holiday souvenirs of your visit to the park.
The camel trek takes about thirty minutes and you are led out of the park into the surrounding wilderness, here you will feel like you are in the middle of the desert. It can be extremely hot, especially in the summer months so it is recommended that the children do carry a sun hat with them. For small children there is the possibility to choose to ride on the pony trek instead of a camel if they choose.
There are some variations on the ticket pricing based on whether you include snacks, drinks or lunch. It might be best to work this out once you get to the park. However, prices start from €4 for children and €8 for an adult for the trek only. Other packages include snacks, a full lunch or drinks only. Children’s birthday parties are also well catered for.
The parks are open daily from 10 a.m. until 5.30 p.m. throughout the year.
For those of you arriving to the Tenerife camel park in the south of the island... When leaving the park, head towards the tiny coastal village of El Puertito. It has a beautiful little bay, unknown to many tourists, with a nice little beach and beach bar. Very popular with the locals in the summer months, be careful at the weekends as it can become a little overcrowded.
