It lies only a short distance from Reina Sofia airport - Tenerife South, and joins on to the very popular resort of Los Cristianos. As most people know, Playa de las Americas is the premier resort for nightlife in Tenerife, but is also home to most of the major attractions in Tenerife.

Holiday Resort of Los Cristianos

Los Cristianos is situated some 15 kilometres from the main Tenerife South airport (Reina Sofia). It is one of the Canary Island's best known tourist destinations alongside it's more flamboyant neighbour, Playa de las Americas. Once a sleepy Canarian fishing village, Los Cristianos has grown into vibrant holiday resort and is probably the biggest destination for family holidays, whilst the more nocturnal amongst us choose the wild next door neighbour of Playa de las Americas. Having said that, there is no shortage of variety in the nightlife of Los Cristianos.

Mount Teide National Park

Mount Teide or Pico del Teide as it is known in Spanish, is the highest mountain in Spain. It is the third largest volcano in the world from its base to tip and is only beaten in size by the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa volcanoes, which are both on the island of Hawaii in the Pacific.

The Teide National Park covers an area of just under 19,000 hectares and became a world heritage centre in the summer of 2007. It is Spain'smost visited national park with around 3.5 million visitors annually.

Tenerife Wine-making History

Making wine in Tenerife and the Canary Islands is a local tradition that has been part of its heritage for many years, with many of the local population still making wine from their own home-grown vines.

It is said that the first vines in Tenerife were planted in the year 1447 by a Portuguese man called Fernando de Castro. Wine culture continued to vigorously grow and at the beginning of the 16th century Tenerife was conquering Europe with its fine wines. Tenerife wine production was so successful that the great writers of the times, such as Walter Scott and Shakespeare himself, referred to the quality of the wines in some of their works.

Los Gigantes

Los Gigantes is the fourth biggest holiday resort in Tenerife after Playa de las Americas, Puerto de la Cruz and Los Cristianos. It lies on the west coast of the island, 45 minutes drive from Tenerife’s main south airport. Los Gigantes, which means "The Giants" in English, refers to the large natural rock formations that stretch over 600 metres up from the Atlantic Ocean, giving Los Gigantes it own natural atmosphere.

Puerto de la Cruz
