Now that you have your rental car, whether you picked it up from Tenerife South airport, or had it delivered to your resort accommodation in Golf del Sur, you will be keen to get out and about driving. To help you with getting out from your base in Golf del Sur, here are a few handy tips to make your car hire excursions a little more comfortable.

Golf del Sur is only a few minutes drive from Tenerife South airport, and perfectly situated near the main TF 1 motorway, so even if you arrive in the hours of darkness, navigating your rental car to Golf del Sur is a very simple drive. There are many different towns and resorts to explore in the sunny south so it is always a good idea to do a little research before you arrive, to help plan some of your driving. The island of Tenerife is a wonderland of different landscapes and panoramic scenery and with so much to explore it can be a little daunting if you do not know the island very well.

Getting Your Rental Car Out of Golf del Sur

If you have never driven in Tenerife before it is always a good idea to take it is easy and spend a little time getting used to the roads in some less populated areas until you get a little more confidence. The busier resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas can be tricky due to their one way systems and difficulty to park, so we always recommend to drive to the smaller neighbouring resorts of Los Abrigos and El Medano first. Not only can they be a great day out, but you have a chance to get used to driving in these smaller more relaxed villages. Let's face it, the last thing you want to do on holiday is have any scrapes in your new car hire - especially if you choose to not take the full car hire insurance cover on your rental car!

The easiest place to drive to from Golf del Sur is Los Abrigos which is literally only a couple of kilometres away. It is never busy and parking is very simple. If you then wish to travel a little further, take the coastal road to El Medano. This is a thriving little Spanish resort and will allow you to gain more driving confidence, but be aware that parking here can be a little more difficult, especially in the high season at weekends. Costa del Silencio, in the other direction can equally provide with a little step up without having to handle any busy junctions and intersections.

Driving Further Afield in Tenerife

So now that you have gained a little knowledge of the roads and you feel a little more confident in tackling some of the more populated resorts in your hire car. Why not head to the main southern resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas. Here you will have to navigate some more difficult road systems, but take your time and be aware of other road users. If you can master driving in these resorts you are now ready to explore anywhere in Tenerife in your hire car.

One other place you may wish to visit while you are on your Golf del Sur holiday, is the resort of Los Gigantes. This is on the south-west coast of the island and about 45 minutes drive away from Golf del Sur and the airport. It is easy to get to and from and is a good starting point if you wish to drive some of the stunning routes that Tenerife has to offer.
