Around the Golf
There are two tourist markets in and around Golf del Sur offering all sorts of holiday gifts, clothes, arts and crafts goods and trinkets. One of the markets is held every Friday on the small patch of wasteland just outside the Aguamarina Gema Hotel adjacent to the new Marina San Miguel. The market is open from 7am in the morning until 2pm in the afternoon. Parking is a little difficult but you can usually always find a parking space in the car park directly opposite the Wilde Geese Irish pub only a few hundred metres away.
The Golf del Sur market is the larger market of the two and the stalls on show carry more items. You can find some great bargains here, especially if you are looking for gifts to take back from your holiday.
There are fantastic collections of clothing and leather products, which include handbags, belts and leather jackets, as well as some great souvenir stalls that offer the much sought after Canarian lace and table cloths. Sunglasses, jewellery and very reasonably price children’s clothes are also on offer. If you can’t get online to do it, you can even purchase your tickets for all of the Tenerife theme parks; including both the Siam Water Park and Tenerife’s number one attraction, the famous Loro Parque, situated in Puerto de la Cruz.
If the stress of the day is getting to you, then a nice relaxing massage is also available on the market.
Los Abrigos Market
The other tourist market is held in the beautiful fishing village of Los Abrigos which is just a short walk across the beach from the Vincci Golf Hotel. Follow the path along the beach which should take no more than 20 minutes. Alternatively you can always hop in a taxi for the short ride. The Los Abrigos market is open every Tuesday evening from around 6pm until 10pm and again offers some excellent choices of gifts and trinkets as well as some fantastic local produce. The market is situated at the top of the hill by the main roundabout just before you enter the seafront. With Los Abrigos being only very small you will have no problems finding the market.
Afterwards, many people make an evening of it and stroll down the seafront boulevard, stopping off in one of the many fine seafood restaurants that Los Abrigos is famous for. Finishing off the day with a great meal and watching the sun disappear into the Atlantic Ocean.
If you haven’t been to the tourist markets before then pop along, you will be pleasantly surprised - and there is always a nice bargain to pick up.
