When arriving on holiday for the first time, especially if you are staying in rental accommodation and do not know the area very well, one of the main considerations is where to shop for general food supplies and where to shop for your gifts to take back home to the family. Arriving in Golf del Sur is no different and we have provided a brief description below of where to shop for your holiday essentials whilst on your Golf del Sur holiday.

Main Shopping in Golf del Sur

There are many different sorts of shops in Golf del Sur, certainly enough for short stay visitors or owners of property who flit back and forth between Europe and the Canary islands. The main congregation of shopping facilities in Golf del Sur revolves around the San Blas Commercial Centre. Here you will find a few gift shops, boutiques, duty free stores, perfumeries and a well stocked local supermarket. There are plenty of ATM machines as well so getting cash out is not a problem during your holiday. car hire, property agents and of course the endless supply of bars, restaurants and takeaways make up the San Blas Commercial Centre.

Alternatively you will also find a smaller shopping area near the Aguamarina hotel directly across the road from The wild Geese Irish bar. Here you will also find a smaller selection of supermarkets, boutiques, an ATM machine and of course many bars and restaurants. The local supermarkets are well stocked in both locations and many of them sell named brand products that you will be used to back home in the UK. If you are only staying in Golf del Sur for a short while then shopping in these supermarkets may appeal to you even though many of them sell their products at premium prices. If you have young children or a large family then shopping on Golf del Sur may become expensive, especially if you are staying for more than a week.

Shopping in Las Chafiras

If you are looking for a place with a little more variation and better prices, then look no further than the commercial area at the top of Golf del Sur known as Las Chafiras, one of the biggest shopping areas in the south of Tenerife. Here you will find almost every conceivable shop that one can imagine. You will find the mainline Spanish chain supermarkets stocking all of your daily needs. There are also large freezer centres, electrical stores, hardware, carpenters, plumbing superstores, fruit and veg shops, a MacDonald’s and one of the best farmers markets on the island which is open only at the weekends from 8am up until lunchtime. Here you will find all the local producers selling direct to the public. To keep all of the family occupied, there is also a bar and children’s playground in the farmers market.

Just to give a brief example of the other available shopping in Las Chafiras, you will also find computer stores, boutiques, a bakers, lingerie, children’s shops, bars, banks, takeaway tapas bars, car showrooms, furniture stores selling indoor and outdoor furniture, and an auction house as well as many shops and superstores that sell gifts and trinkets.

One of the most popular stores at Las Chafiras is the Iceland superstore. A real favourite with British residents and holiday makers, Iceland stocks all the produce that you would expect, including English bread and Cravendale milk. All the main branded items typically found back home are on display here and it’s certainly worth a visit if you want to find all the British goodies under one roof.

With a good bus service now available from Golf del Sur, shopping in Las Chafiras is easily accessible. A taxi is only a few Euros each way, and if you have a hire car you will find ample parking spaces. The prices in Las Chafiras compared to the local supermarket prices on Golf del Sur are considerably less, so it may be worth doing your weekly shop in one go to save you and your family money, allowing you to spend more time and cash on some of Tenerife's theme parks and family attractions - so happy shopping!
