Based in Marina San Miguel, in Golf del Sur, the Submarine Safari or Yellow Submarine Adventure tops many peoples list of things to do in Tenerife and was first introduced to the Canary Islands on the island of Lanzarote in the summer of 97; it was the first company to bring a submersible vessel to the archipelago enabling one and all, young and old, the experience and magical mystery of viewing the undersea world.
This unique formula has now been established on the wonderful island of Tenerife. Since late 2006 the Submarine Safari has been running out of the newly completed Marina San Miguel, which is situated between the resorts of Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf in the south of Tenerife. A brand new reception centre has been built in the marina which includes a gift shop, cafeteria, toilets and a sun terrace with children’s play area.
You can now enjoy the true underwater world of Tenerife which was previously only experienced by deep sea divers. The “Sub Fun Cinco” which is the name of the boat was built at a cost of 3.5 million US dollars. With total safety and comfort in mind, the cabin is maintained at normal atmospheric compression and temperature, making this adventure accessible for people with medical conditions, ear problems and even pregnant women. Children under two years old however are not allowed on the submarine.
The submarine was manufactured and designed in Finland and is nearly 19 metres long, 4 metres wide and 6,5 metres high with a total weight of around 106 tons, it can safely dive to 60 metres below the Atlantic Ocean whilst carrying 48 passengers and crew.
The actual dive is around one hour long. This includes boarding and disembarking the submarine and each dive carries a professional tour guide who is always on hand to give a comprehensive explanation about the underwater experience and submarine information. Cameras are allowed on board and the environment is perfect for taking photos although a high speed film is recommended to capture all the sights. On board, you will be allocated an individual seat with viewing port, ensuring total viewing pleasure. Each viewing port has its own TV monitor giving up to date information.
A free daily bus service is available from all the main holiday resorts including Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes; and bus allocation and dive times will be issued on booking confirmation. However for people staying on Golf del Sur, a short stroll to the marina is recommended to purchase your tickets. With four dives a day, seven days a week to choose from, everybody is catered for.
Dive times are daily at the following times: 10am, 11am, 12am and 2pm - You are requested to be at the marina at least 30 minuets before boarding.
