Originally opened in 1987 and designed by Pepe Gancedo, Golf del Sur is one of the biggest and best golf courses Tenerife has to offer. It was given a face-lift in 2005 by famous Spanish golfer Manuel Pinero, converting the links course into a par 36, which has made it the full championship golf course that it is today. The course itself consists of 18 + 9 holes which can be played in different variations with all the courses having a wealth of natural features to test even the keenest of golfers and keep golf's place as one of the most popular things to do in Tenerife.

Golf del Sur has its own history hosting many of the world’s finest competitions. The Tenerife open was held in 1989, 1992, 1993 & 1994 with Jose Maria Olazabal taking the winning podium in 89 & 92 & David Gilford and Mark James being victorious in the following years. The Shell Corporation also held their wonderful world of golf competition on Golf Del Sur in 1995. More recently the Tenerife ladies open was held in 2002 & 2007 producing two different winners, Raquel Carriedo and Nikki Garret.

Golf del Sur Golf Course

This stunning course with the famous Mount Teide set as its backdrop offers the golfer unusually wide fairways and challenging water hazards all set in a dramatic landscape which takes advantage of the natural landscape. With volcanic sand traps and deep ravines even the most skilled of golfers can fall foul of its trickery and diversity. The course at Golf del Sur has also been awarded the Madera Verde diploma of Honour in 2007. This award was for being the most environmentally friendly golf course in Spain. The partnership with the natural landscape and local vegetation within the course boundaries has made Golf del Sur the proud owner of this prestigious award.

For both beginners and advanced players, the Golf del Sur golf club offers the opportunity of lessons from the resident professionals. There is a dedicated area fully equipped with practise tees, putting green & bunker and chipping green. All the usual services are provided including buggy hire, club hire, electric and manual trolley hire. The pro shop on Golf Del Sur is well stocked and carries many first line products.

The club house on Golf del Sur is built in a very traditional style and its facilities are at the same level of all the greatest European golf resorts. Hosting many events, the club house also offers a full catering and bar service. The main bar in the club house offers a wide range of refreshing drinks for you to wind down, both before and after a round of golf. A range of snacks are also available as well as a nice selection of tapas, salads, meat and fish. In addition, some great pasta dishes are on offer.

There is ample room in the main area for hosting parties and functions, and details of these services can be discussed by contacting the main club house, which also houses an ATM machine for your convenience. For those who don’t wish to play golf you can always have a game of tennis on one of the three all weather tennis courts, and for the kids, why not have a game of crazy golf on the wacky putt putt course?
